Notice of CYO Rules: LIMITED TEAM MEMBERSHIP RULE UPDATE: Below is the UPDATED Limited Team Membership ruling which will start in the 2025-2026 Winter Season.

 

L.        Limited Team Membership:

1.        A player may not be registered simultaneously with more than one (1) team of the same sport in the CYO League.  After a player has been listed on a team, he/she may not be transferred to another team within the same Parish/School/Academy CYO program without permission from the CYO Athletic Department.

2.        The CYO League allows participation in the same sport in the same season with other organized leagues with the following stipulation:

          a.        Teams are allowed one (1) league game change during the regular season that is not due to a Parish/School/Academy function or that does not constitute an emergency (i.e. weather, building conditions, school closing, etc.)

                    3.        League rule reminders:

a.        Except for Bowling, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Football and Track Championship/Finals, unless CYO is notified by the deadline date listed on the CYO Athletic Calendar of a “Required” Activity, CYO will not change any playoff, semi-final or final contests to accommodate personal schedules and/or other league schedules.

b.        To be eligible for play-offs, all players listed on the 7/8^th Grade Team Registration and Photo Consent Google Sheet must participate in at least 50% of the regular league season contests.  (Non-League/Crossover games are not considered regular season league games.)

Teams will be Split primarily by Grade level, if there is a situation where their are enough kids in 1 grade to split into multiple teams, we will have a tryout to determine each of those teams.

CYO rules: You must be a student of St. Joseph School, or registered parishioner of St. Joseph, Christ the Redeemer, or St. John Fisher Chapel  to play for the St. Joseph team.

Practices  can begin the week of November 10th, Please plan on tryouts on that day and/or practices depending on registration numbers. Practices are usually 2-3 times per week. Games are usually on the weekend and begin in early December, but there may be games during the week. Teams might participate in holiday (Thanksgiving and Christmas) tournaments.

No league games will be scheduled the week between Christmas and New Years Day.

There WILL be games during Winter Break in February.  Last 2 games  of the regular season fall between February 14-21st. Please Plan Accordingly 

Uniform Jersey and Shorts will be provided to each player and will be returned promptly at the end of the basketball season.

Failure to do so will result in that players family being billed for the entire uniform.

Parent/Legal Guardian Assumption of Risk and Authorization. As the parent or legal guardian of the player, I am aware that participation in sports requires an acceptance of risk of possible injury. Thus, as the parent or legal guardian of the above named play I understand, recognize, and accept the risk of possible injury in the participation of sports. I attest to the availability of health insurance, and commit to notifying the Athletic Director in the event that such coverage is terminated, or replaced. Additionally I commit to notifying the Athletic Director of any material medical conditions present, or that may surface during this year with the Player, that could increase the risk of injury for the player, or his/her teammates. I will submit a completed physical prior to the commencement of practice or game play. I hereby give my consent for the above named player to participate in the CYO Athletics. I understand that there is a chance of accidents or injuries in any athletic activity. I understand that CYO, St. Joseph Parish, St. Joseph School is not responsible in any way for accidents or injuries incurred during activities sponsored by any of the above named organizations. I give my permission for my son/daughter to be treated by a physician or dentist and/or any physician or dentist in attendance if parent/guardian cannot be contacted. I give my consent to participate in this sport:

I hereby grant the Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Detroit permission to use photos or videos of myself/ or my child taken during a CYO Athletic/ Agency event. In addition, I realize photos taken may be published on our Facebook pages, newsletters, websites, or other media.

Physical forms may be found in the rack outside of the school office or on the school website, under athletics. The doctor must fill out this form and you need to fill in the rest of the form completely before your child may participate in any camps or practices for the season. There are FOUR sides to the form that will need to be filled out COMPLETELY. If an item does not apply, please write in N/A.

A valid Physical must be dated either on or after April 15, 2025.
